Born in Saint Catharines, Canada, Linda Evangelista developed an early interest in fashion and modeling. At 15, she was spotted at a local beauty contest by a talent scout. After she finished high school, Evangelista moved to New York, then to Paris the following year. Her first major campaign, for Yves Saint Laurent's "Opium" perfume, was a huge success. In 1988, photographer Peter Lindbergh encouraged Evangelista to cut her hair, marking her rise to supermodel status. Soon she was gracing the covers of every major fashion magazine and fashion show catwalks across the globe. Evangelista works regularly with renowned photographers Steven Meisel, Peter Lindbergh, Patrick Demarchelier and Richard Avedon and has appeared in advertising campaigns for Chanel, Dolce and Gabbana, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Versace, Christian Dior and Fendi. She was the first model inducted into the Canadian walk of fame, received a "Lifetime Achievement Award" at the 1997 VH1 Fashion and Music Awards and was named as one of People Magazine's "Most Beautiful People." At present Linda is enjoying her career and is actively involved with various charities.
