M·A·C Cosmetics, the rule-breaking professional cosmetics company created VIVA Glam lipsticks in 1994 to serve as the primary fund-raising tool of the M·A·C AIDS Fund. To date, the M·A·C AIDS Fund has raised more than US$ 26 million in order to provide daily services for men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS around the world. Every single penny of the US$ 14.00 retail price of the four VIVA GLAM lipsticks goes directly to people in need.
In the spring of 2002, music legend and outspoken AIDS activist, Elton John, joined Grammy Award winner Mary J. Blige and rock icon Shirley Manson of the band Garbage as the spokespersons for the newly launched VIVA GLAM IV lipstick.
President of M·A·C, John Demsey, said:
"We began the partnership with the Elton John AIDS Foundation one year ago and it has served to increase our strength in raising funds and awareness of this pandemic."
The Elton John AIDS Foundation, which was founded in 1992, is one of the most prominent non-profit AIDS organizations which funds prevention education and direct patient care services worldwide. The Foundation has to date raised £19 million. The collaboration of the Elton John AIDS foundation and the M·A·C AIDS Fund will help more than 40 million people affected by this global epidemic.
Recognized the world over for his commitment to HIV/AIDS issues, Elton John said:
"I am delighted to be working with M·A·C on the promotion of the VIVA GLAM Lipstick. It's fantastic that the company is doing so much for people affected by HIV and AIDS via proceeds from the lipstick, their own M·A·C AIDS Fund and by partnering my own AIDS Foundation to support our work through its generous sponsorship of events like tonight's concert."
