M∙A∙C Viva Glam Spokesperson Fergie Goes Back To School to Talk Health

(February 5, 2008) - GRAMMY Award winning performer, and M∙A∙C Viva Glam spokesperson, Fergie, went back to school, joining a 10th grade Health Class on HIV/AIDS Prevention at Murry Bergtraum High School for Business Careers in lower Manhattan.

Fergie and the students at Murry Bergtraum High School had an open and frank dialogue about the importance of safe sex and HIV prevention.  Following the discussion, Nancy Mahon, Executive Director of the M∙A∙C AIDS Fund and John Demsey, Global President of M∙A∙C Cosmetics, presented $50,000 to Murry Bergtraum Principal Barbara Esmilla and Health Instructor Mary Cheng, to expand the school’s HIV education curriculum and prevention activities.

Young people are increasingly hard hit by the AIDS epidemic -- half of all new HIV infections in the U.S. are among youth 25 years of age and younger.  Fergie's visit to the school was to help launch the M∙A∙C AIDS Fund Global Youth Prevention Initiative.  All proceeds from the sale of a Viva Glam VI Limited Edition lip glass will be directed to the M∙A∙C AIDS Fund’s Global Youth HIV Prevention Initiative, which in turn will fund organizations that are addressing the AIDS crisis in young people.
