Project Kindle (PK), Santa Clarita, CA
To develop, implement, and evaluate two 3 day long speaking tours in rural Illinois and Mexico high schools by HIV infected and affected youth. In Illinois, over 14,000 people are living with HIV or AIDS. In Mexico, the number is nearly 200,000. Both areas represent opportunities for Project Kindle to contribute to HIV/AIDS prevention efforts in a way that isn’t currently offered to them.

REACH LA, Los Angeles, CA
To fund an additional part-time peer counselor position for the “Ovahness Program”. The name of this program stands for “reach over the top to achieve greatness” and the goal is to reduce the rate of HIV infections among gay/bisexual/transgender (GBT) African-American teen boys and young men from South, Central, and East Los Angeles. This is a particularly high-risk group.

Save the Food Basket (SFB), Kaneohe, HI
To expand its grocery program to reach a rural population on Oahu not previously served. SFB has pre-identified 55 rural Pacific Islander families who would qualify for this program and are in need of support. Good nutrition is an important component of health maintenance for those who are HIV positive or have AIDS.
