M·A·C AIDS Fund Global Youth Prevention Initiative

Why Youth?
Young people are increasingly hard hit by the HIV/AIDS epidemic and communities big and small must band together to help prevent the numbers of diagnoses and deaths from rising.  According to UNAIDS, half of all new infections in the United States are in young people aged 15-24. Globally, a person between the ages of 15 and 24 becomes infected with HIV every 15 seconds. At current rates, over 2.1 million youth globally are expected to become HIV positive within the next year. These facts are daunting, and there is an enormous need for effective education and prevention programs to curb infection rates in youth.

Our Response:
In honor of Fergie’s commitment to empowering young people through her role as VIVA GLAM spokesperson for 2008, the M·A·C AIDS Fund will be allocating a portion of all proceeds from the VIVA GLAM VI limited edition lipglass towards the newly established Youth Prevention Initiative.  This initiative will directly respond to the increased risk of HIV infection among young people by supporting innovative youth prevention programs to those groups at greatest risk.

The M·A·C AIDS Fund will accept funding requests for the Youth Prevention Initiative beginning March 15, 2008.  Please check back later for additional RFP information and instructions.
